Taking responsibility
for the future

The SER Group believes strongly in the importance of corporate social responsibility and the company's role in society. A large number of our social activities focus on supporting the next generation. The German business and career magazine “Handelsblatt Junge Karriere” (Trade Journal for Careers for Young People) has certified SER as one of its “Fair Companies”. This title is awarded to companies that implement a new set of ethics into their working environments, providing graduates with a fair opportunity. SER has already been applying the rules for the correct treatment of interns for a number of years.

In supporting universities, SER not only makes an important contribution to society, it also helps to tackle the lack of skilled professionals in the IT industry. As part of this initiative, SER works closely with RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin) and Wildau University of Applied Sciences. We run a number of different support programmes that provide students with an insight into working life as well as grants for financial support.

In addition to these activities, SER also runs a charitable, independent support programme, which focuses primarily on young people and education. As a software company with more than 30 years of experience in the information technology sector, SER is convinced that laying the foundations for excellent education and professional training as early as possible is absolutely essential to our knowledge society. For this reason, SER is active not only in these areas, but also when it comes to supporting further courses of study.

The Germany scholarship

The “Deutschlandstipendium” Germany scholarship is a programme supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and one which SER has also been supporting for six years. The scholarship provides financial and non-material support to high-achieving and committed students at German universities. This funding is not means-tested, nor does it take state funding for students into consideration. As part of the programme, SER has been supporting 18 Germany scholarships for a number of years for computer science students at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, and particularly high-achieving students at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University in the subjects of computer science and technical journalism.

“Kinder helfen Kindern” – Our SER kids

“Kinder helfen Kindern” – Our SER kids

Fundraising by SER children

For the past year, SER Austria has been giving its employees' children a birthday gift of €200. The idea is that these young SER progenies then donate half of this to Vienna's mobile children's hospice “MOMO”, which would result in a total donation of €2000. In doing so, the SER kids are making a valuable contribution to caring for seriously ill children, young people and their families.

The “Kinder helfen Kindern” – or “children helping children” – initiative is intended to instil a sense of social responsibility into the next generation of SER protégés, as this €2000 contribution makes a real difference to the hospice. MOMO is an initiative by Caritas, Caritas Socialis and Vienna's mobile children's care service “MOKI-Wien”, which allows seriously ill children and young people to spend time at home in the security and familiarity of their loved ones. The mobile children's hospice MOMO organises the necessary support for these families, such as medical care, nursing through MOKI-Wien, psychosocial counselling, and voluntary pastoral care.

A year of “Kinder helfen Kindern”

“The ‘Kinder helfen Kindern’ campaign is all about helping those who are struggling with poor health. As a company, we wanted to take the opportunity to participate in some corporate social responsibility and see this develop beyond the confines of our business by getting the children of our employees involved,” explains Hartmut Gailer, Managing Director of SER Austria. For a year now, the SER kids have been raising money for Vienna's mobile children's hospice MOMO.

The “Kinder helfen Kindern” charity initiative has dedicated a great deal of time and positive energy and will be starting round two in September 2014!
